UPK Program

Integrated Universal Pre-Kindergarten Classroom for Preschool Children

Family Enrichment Network contracts with the Horace Mann Elementary school in the Binghamton City School District and Charles F. Johnson Elementary school in the Union-Endicott Central School District to provide an integrated UPK classroom for preschool children. (Universal Pre-Kindergarten)

The classroom enrolls 10 typically developing students, and 6 students with disabilities who need the support of a special education teacher in the classroom. The program is 3 1/2 hours long, and there are morning and afternoon sessions.

An integrated classroom is beneficial to all the children. There is ample adult support, with a UPK teacher, a special education teacher, a classroom teaching assistant, and often there may be additional aides. Push-in services by speech therapists, occupational therapists, or physical therapists provide natural supports in the group setting, and also benefit children who do not qualify for therapies.

The curriculum follows New York State standards and district guidelines, and provides a stimulating and varied program, including field trips, to help children grow and develop.

Breakfast or lunch is provided, at no cost to parents, for all the children.
